LAHORE:

A district and sessions court on Thursday sentenced two convicts to double life imprisonment each for murdering a man and a woman over a dispute over refusing to marry and dumping their bodies in a drum.

Additional Sessions Judge Shoaib Anwar Qureshi announced the verdict at the Lahore District and Sessions Court after the trial proceedings were over.

The convicts, identified as Kulsoom Bibi and Ali Hassan, were given two counts of life imprisonment each for the murders of Farzana and Amanat.

According to the prosecution, the motive for the crime was a dispute arising from the refusal to marry.

The accused allegedly murdered the victims in Sheikhupura in 2023.

Investigations revealed that after committing the crime, the convicts placed the bodies in a drum and transported them to Lahore, where they were dumped in the Nishtar Colony area in an attempt to conceal the crime.

The case was registered at Nishtar Colony police station on charges of murder after the bodies were recovered.

During the trial, prosecutor Shabbir Ahmed Khan presented 16 witnesses to substantiate the charges against the accused.

The court reviewed the evidence, including witness testimonies and investigation findings, before concluding the trial.

After finding that the prosecution’s case was proven beyond a reasonable doubt, the court sentenced both convicts.

The detailed judgment is expected to outline the court’s observations on the motive, evidence and circumstances of the double murder.
