Islamabad court upholds arrest warrants against KP CM Sohail Afridi

ISLAMABAD:

The Islamabad District and Sessions Court on Saturday upheld arrest warrants against Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi in a case related to alleged misleading allegations against state institutions.

The court noted that the accused was absent and had not been produced despite earlier instructions, causing further delay in the proceedings.

The hearing took place under the chairmanship of civil judge Abbas Shah. The judge was informed that CM Afridi could not be detained or produced before the court.

The judge ordered to keep the arrest warrants in force and ordered the authorities to guarantee the arrest and presentation of the accused at the next hearing. The court stressed that compliance with its orders was necessary to move the case forward.

According to the case file, CM Afridi faces allegations of making statements that allegedly misled the public and damaged the credibility of state institutions. The case has been registered under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA).

The prosecution informed the court that the case was registered by the National Cyber ​​Crime Investigation Agency under relevant sections of the law.

After hearing the brief arguments, the court adjourned the proceedings till March 9.

Multiple arrest warrants had previously been issued for the prime minister in the case.
