Police register kidnapping case after Canadian citizen allegedly goes missing in Lahore


The complainant says in FIR that Hamza booked a taxi from a private company and left the house but did not return.

Police have registered a case against unknown persons after Canadian national Hamza Ahmed was allegedly abducted from Defense A area of ​​Lahore and have launched an investigation into the incident.

Lahore Deputy Inspector General (Operations) Muhammad Faisal Kamran confirmed the incident and said investigations were being carried out from multiple angles and progress was expected soon.

He formed a special team under the supervision of SP Cantt Akhlaq Ullah Tarar Division. The team includes ASI of Defense Circle and SHO Defense A Khurram Shehzad.

The police registered a case following a complaint from the victim’s friend Yousaf Rashid, under whose supervision Ahmed was.

According to the First Information Report (FIR), Ahmed arrived in Pakistan on February 13 in connection with research work for his doctoral thesis and was residing in Rashid’s house in Defense A.

The complainant told the police that Ahmed had booked a taxi from a private company and left the house but did not return.

Police said the team was reviewing CCTV footage and other evidence in an effort to track down the kidnapped man.

Meanwhile, the Human Rights Commission of Pakistan (HRCP) has expressed serious concern over reports that Hamza Ahmed Khan, a political science student at the University of Toronto, has gone missing in Lahore.

In a statement about X, the HRCP said he was in Pakistan to conduct a field investigation when he allegedly disappeared on February 19. Colleagues in Lahore have claimed that he was kidnapped by unidentified people.

“Hamza was visiting Pakistan to conduct field research and his colleagues in Lahore have claimed that he was abducted by unidentified persons on February 19. The authorities must trace his whereabouts immediately and ensure that he is recovered and returned home safely.”
