ISLAMABAD:
On Tuesday, the Senate unanimously adopted a resolution condemning Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s comments about a plan to ally with India and other countries to counter Muslim nations.
The resolution proposed by Palwasha Mohammad Zai Khan of the PPP deplored the continued provocative actions and statements by Israeli leaders that threatened regional and international peace and stability, including the latest statement on forming “alliances” against Muslim nations.
In a cabinet meeting on Sunday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his country “will create a whole system – essentially a kind of hexagon of alliances – around or within the Middle East,” the Times of Israel reported.
Netanyahu listed India, Greece, Cyprus and “unidentified Arab, African and Asian countries,” the report added.
“The intention here is to create an axis of countries that see reality, challenges and goals in the same way, as opposed to radical axes,” he said.
The Indian Prime Minister will also visit Israel on Wednesday (today).
In its resolution approved today, the Senate also condemned any attempt by Israel to undermine the “sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of brotherly Islamic countries and rejected” the announcement made by Israel to recognize the independence of the so-called Somaliland region in Somalia.
The resolution took strong exception to statements perceived as undermining regional stability and international legal norms.
The chamber criticized Israel’s policies and actions, citing disregard for international law, the United Nations Charter, relevant United Nations resolutions, and the advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice.
The Senate rejected any attempt to alter the legal or historical status of the occupied Palestinian territories, including holy sites, and condemned the expansion of settlements and the displacement of Palestinians.
The chamber deplored what it described as continued provocative measures and statements by Israeli leaders that could threaten regional and international peace.
The resolution also condemned any efforts aimed at undermining the sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity of Islamic countries, while rejecting Israel’s announcement to recognize the independence of Somaliland, describing it as incompatible with international principles.
The Senate urged the international community to ensure accountability and end impunity for actions that violate international humanitarian and human rights laws.
He demanded Israel’s complete withdrawal from the occupied territories and called for greater, sustained and unhindered humanitarian assistance to the Palestinians, particularly in Gaza.
The House emphasized the need for prompt recovery and reconstruction efforts and reiterated Pakistan’s historic and unwavering support for the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination.
The resolution reaffirmed support for the establishment of an independent, viable and contiguous State of Palestine based on the pre-1967 borders, with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.
