- The Shark EveryMess 3-in-1 can vacuum up dry and wet spills and act as a spot cleaner
- It’s impressively compact and comes with a variety of accessories.
- Available to buy now for $149.99/£199
Shark has expanded its line of spot cleaners with a new multi-talented machine. Shark EveryMess can vacuum up liquid and solid dirt, or function as an upholstery spot cleaner. I saw one in action at Shark headquarters, where it sucked up a Coca-Cola spill from a cream-colored carpet without leaving a trace of sticky soda behind.
This 3-in-1 combination is quite unusual: in this corner of the market, you usually get wet-dry vacuums or spot cleaners, but it’s rare for one appliance to do both. It’s available to buy now from $149.99 in the US and £199.99 in the UK (scroll down to see the best prices at a variety of retailers).
Plus, it’s impressively compact. The US and UK versions have slightly different proportions, but either would fit in a medium-sized kitchen or laundry room cupboard. (US version measures 10.5 x 16.5 x 13.5 inches / 26.7 x 41.9 x 34.3 cm L x W x H. UK version measures 22.7 x 36.9 x 36.4 cm / 8.9 x 14.5 x 14.3 inches.)
There are several compatible attachments to tackle different types of grime: an extendable crevice tool for tight corners, a wider squeegee tool to cover larger spaces, and a dedicated stain remover attachment for stubborn, stubborn stains.
Although it’s marketed as a 3-in-1, it doesn’t seem like a sensible replacement for a full-size wet floor cleaner, because none of the accessories are particularly large. However, for smaller, more complicated cleans of any kind, it seems ideal – Shark lists broken glass and permanent markers as examples of awkward cleans that this appliance can happily tackle.
Another obvious market for this type of all-purpose cleaner is pet owners. Not only is EveryMess suitable for cleaning everything from muddy paw prints on furniture to occasional potty training accidents, but Shark says it’s especially good at picking up pet hair at the same time.
Shark boasts a ‘Rinse & Ready’ self-cleaning feature, but it’s a little more rudimentary than it looks: to rinse the tube, you can simply vacuum up a jug of fresh water. For particularly nasty messes, Shark recommends lining the main container with a 15-50 liter plastic bag so you don’t have to get your hands dirty when disposing of it.
EveryMess is designed to be used with Shark’s ‘StainForce’ two-part cleaning solution, and the brand suggests that you’ll only get that kind of extreme stain-removing performance with that specific formula. The spray nozzle part clips directly onto the cleaning cartridges, replacements for which can be purchased separately at a cost of $24.99 / £24.99 for two, or $14.99 / £14.99 for one.
