The BAFTA 2025 nominees have been revealed and Conclave is the big winner, but one of my favorite movies didn’t get anything and it’s a crime.

A few weeks ago, the 2025 Golden Globes kicked off this year’s awards season, with the first glitter ball event of the year celebrating some of the best films of 2024.

Now it’s the turn of the BAFTA 2025, whose nominations were announced today (January 15). And, like the list of nominees for the 2025 Golden Globes, this year’s contingent has us all talking about the surprises (and snubs) that are part (and not part) of their selection.

Edward Berger’s religious thriller Conclave leads the pack with 12 nominations, while Emilia Perez (11) and The brutalist (nine) follow closely. However, of all the new 2024 movies that were released in theaters and/or on the best streaming services in the world, there is only one: the one starring Zendaya. Challengers – that has left me stunned by its lack of recognition.

Being one of, if not the most memorable movie soundtracks of 2024, the fact that Challengers Not being deemed worthy of recognition in that category is inexcusable in my opinion. Compared to the actual nominees in this category: The Brutalist, Conclave, Emilia Pérez, Nosferatu, and The wild robot It is a farce that, at least, Challengers did not receive approval in this field. To say it’s been overlooked in this category (or any category, for that matter) is an understatement. Here’s hoping the Oscar committee makes more sense when this year’s Academy Awards are revealed on January 19.
