Nintendo has finally lifted the curtain on its next console. Officially called Nintendo Switch 2, the long-awaited successor to the Nintendo Switch will officially launch in 2025. Here is the most important information we learned from the revelation.
Most significantly, we were able to see the console for the first time with an in-depth 3D rendering, highlighting the console and its numerous hardware features.
It looks very similar to the Nintendo Switch OLED, but there are some important differences. Firstly, it appears to feature a larger screen, as demonstrated in the trailer compared to the original Switch.
The Joy-Con controllers also received a redesign, they are also now larger and now attach magnetically to the console on its side, something that was heavily rumored in the lead-up to the reveal.
Additionally, the trailer also confirmed that a Nintendo Direct presentation will air on April 2, 2025, which will likely give us another look at the console, along with a possible release date.

Look
There’s no official word yet on its internal specs, but everything we’ve seen in the console’s reveal trailer suggests a considerable jump in processing power. Despite this, it is very clear that Nintendo Switch 2 is still a hybrid console, so it can be played both at home and on the go.
As for the types of games you can expect on the Nintendo Switch 2, we now know for sure that the system will be backwards compatible. The trailer confirmed that the console will “play exclusive Nintendo Switch 2 games, as well as Nintendo Switch games,” both physical and digital.
However, some Switch games “may not be compatible or fully compatible with Nintendo Switch 2,” Nintendo notes.
This means it will fully work with any of the best Nintendo Switch games. This is great news as it means that any Nintendo Switch owner will already have a good library of games to play from day one.
