- This is the ‘first’ login restore experience for Windows Backup for Organizations
- Covers Windows Settings and Microsoft Store apps.
- It also covers even more device types.
Microsoft has announced the general availability of the first sign-in restore experience as part of Windows Backup for Organizations, which will allow users to restore Windows settings and their Microsoft Store apps more quickly.
The new option appears when you sign in for the first time on a new or reimaged Windows 11 device, allowing users to quickly access previous settings just by signing in.
Since this is a login restore experience, it is only available upon login, so if users choose to skip the OOBE restore option, they will not be prompted again, Microsoft confirmed in a blog post.
Windows Backup for Organizations
Although this functionality was previously available for Entra-joined devices, the update now means it is also available for hybrid-joined devices, hybrid managed environments, multi-user devices, and Windows 365 cloud PCs.
Microsoft considers “minimizing downtime and accelerating productivity” to be the two key benefits of the upgrade; In short, it makes it easier to recover personal settings and reduces the friction typically involved in installing backups.
It’s the perfect upgrade for organizations still migrating to Windows 11, speeding up the time it takes to get users back to their seats. But the new backup tool is also a valuable upgrade for businesses with frequent hardware upgrade cycles or those using cloud PCs.
However, it’s been a long time coming, and was first revealed at Microsoft Ignite in 2024. Back then, Windows 10’s market share was still 62%, and Windows 11 was 35%. Imagine all the companies that could have benefited from having the login restore experience back then.
