HYDERABAD:
Protests broke out in Sindh on Sunday to condemn the martyrdom of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and the US and Israeli attacks on the neighboring country. Religious leaders and party officials took to the streets, while Sindhi nationalist parties also condemned what they described as an unjust war imposed on Iran.
Jamaat-e-Islami organized a symbolic Namaz-e-Janaza for Khamenei at Koh-e-Noor Chowk in Hyderabad. The Milli Yakjahti Council, which represents several religious parties, announced nationwide protests to mourn Khamenei. Council chief Sahibzada Abul Khair Muhammad Zubair chaired an online meeting in Hyderabad before revealing plans for the rally. He accused US President Donald Trump of being “the key architect of this evil conspiracy”, saying the US employs “lies, deception and aggression to deceive the world”. Zubair also condemned the imposition of war on Muslim countries during the holy month of Ramazan and warned that nuclear-armed Pakistan could also become a target.
Shia Ulema Council, Majlis-e-Wahdatul Muslimeen, Asgharia Students Organization, Imamia Students Organization, Jafaria Students Organization and other groups also organized protests in major and smaller cities of Sindh, expressing solidarity with the Iranian people. Qaumi President Awami Tehreek Ayaz Latif Palijo expressed grief over the martyrdom of Khamenei and hundreds of innocent Iranians, including women and children, blaming the United States for “trying to set the world on fire” and attacking countries to control their oil.
Sindh Taraqi Pasand Party Chairman Dr. Qadir Magsi stated that the people of Sindh fully support Iran against the unprovoked attack. He called Khamenei “a brave and principled man who never bowed to imperial powers.”
President Awami Tehreek’s defender Vasand Thari said “Khamenei’s martyrdom will write a new chapter in human history of resistance against global imperialism” and condemned violations of international laws and human rights by the United States and Israel.
The protests highlighted widespread outrage across Sindh, with religious and political leaders calling for justice, solidarity with Iran and peaceful demonstrations against what they described as an imperialist attack.
