Head of the Transport Alliance alleges that agreements reached with the government are not being implemented
KARACHI:
Pakistan Freight Transport Alliance Chairman Malik Shehzad Awan has sharply criticized the recent rise in oil prices and warned that transporters could announce a nationwide strike after Eid, following consultations with stakeholders across Pakistan.
In a statement, Awan said transporters across the country condemned the rise in fuel prices, pointing out that diesel prices had increased by Rs 23-24 per liter and petrol by Rs 13 per liter in the last two months. Despite the increase in fuel costs during the holy month of Ramadan, he said, transporters have not increased rates.
He added that the increase in fuel prices affects not only transporters but all citizens, since they cause a wave of inflation. According to him, both the federal government and the Punjab government were putting transporters in a difficult situation. He recalled that transporters had previously observed a 10-day national strike due to what he called flawed policies.
Awan further alleged that agreements reached with the government were not being implemented.
