NYT Connections Today (Game #997): The Answers
The answers to today’s Connections game #997 are…
- YELLOW: CHASE DOG, SHADOW, TAIL, TRACK
- GREEN: SPORTY FAIR, HONEST, SPORTY, SQUARE
- BLUE: CLASSIC GIFTS FOR CHILDREN BIKE, BOOK, TOY, VIDEO GAME
- PURPLE: “___ GIRL” MISSING TITLES, GOSSIP, NEW, WORKING
- My rating: Easy
- My score: Perfect
At first I was baffled by the current options. Or rather, bewildered, because so many seemed to go with so many others. Where to start? Most of the options I had came in pairs, so my big breakthrough was when I realized that HOUND, SHADOW, and TRACK were a trio, then I added TAIL to complete the yellow quartet.
That helped a little, but I was still confused. Then I saw GOSSIP and GONE sitting next to each other, and I saw GIRL going after both of them to make titles. It took me a while to think NEW and WORK, but I finally got it done.
With the toughest group down, I thought it would be a piece of cake from here, and it was. I clicked on BIKE, BOOK, TOY, and VIDEO GAME thinking “surely it can’t be that easy,” but it was, because CLASSIC GIFTS FOR KIDS was a very easy blue.
Yesterday’s NYT Connections Answers (Tuesday, March 3, Game #996)
- YELLOW: “BIG” THINGS APPLE, BROTHER, DIPPER, MAC
- GREEN: BE ADJACENT TO BACKGROUND, FLANK, NEIGHBOR, TOUCH
- BLUE: SEEN IN A CLOSET HANGER, HOOK, ROD, SHELF
- PURPLE: STARTING WITH SYNONYMS OF “SPEED” CHEST, FASTIDIOUS, FLEETWOOD, QUICKSAND ARENA
What are NYT connections?
NYT Connections is one of the increasingly popular word games created by the New York Times. It challenges you to find groups of four items that share something in common, and each group has a different difficulty level: green is easy, yellow is a little harder, blue is usually quite difficult, and purple is usually very difficult.
On the plus side, you don’t technically need to solve the final question since you’ll be able to answer it through a process of elimination. What’s more, you can make up to four mistakes, which gives you a little breathing room.
However, it’s a little more complicated than something like Wordle and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to trip you up with tricks. For example, be careful with homophones and other puns that could disguise answers.
It can be played for free via the NYT Games site on desktop or mobile devices.
