Is the United States (US) going to use nuclear weapons against Iran? A series of mysterious earthquakes at the top-secret US military base in Nevada have raised concerns.
According to the United States Geological Survey (USGS), around 16 moderate tremors were recorded in the vicinity of the base, also known as Area 52.
Area 52 is located next to the famous Area 51, more popularly known for conspiracy theories linking it to extraterrestrial life.
According to the Daily Mail, scientists recorded more than 100 seismic events within a 50-mile radius of the Tonopah Proving Ground, which the US military has used for several decades for experimental research and nuclear testing.
The shock waves ranged in magnitude between 1.0 and 3.0.
According to the Center for Arms Control and Nonproliferation, underground nuclear tests typically generate seismic activity ranging from magnitude 4.0 to greater than 6.0, depending on the yield of the weapon (kilotons of TNT equivalent) and the depth of burial.
The mysterious shock waves come as the United States continues its massive bombing campaign against Iran in Operation Epic Fury. US President Donald Trump has threatened Iran with “the biggest wave”, which he said was yet to come.
It also comes after the expiration of the New START treaty between Russia and the United States, which limited the number of nuclear warheads deployed by both countries.
