Money without purpose
We love providing practical shopping advice on the latest tech products here at TechRadar. But sometimes what we love even further is to enjoy the most outrageously luxurious, high-end, high-end offerings on the planet. That is what we bring you in these columns of Purposeless Money; You can read the entire series here.
If you’ve spent any time with elite audio gear, you’ll know it’s not for the budget-minded, and if you haven’t spent time on aspirational hi-fi gear but would like to, don’t worry! We went to Bristol’s latest Hi-Fi Show to give you a rundown of the high-end gear on display there.
But know this: these types of speakers, within the right system, can sound exceptional.
And some of the most expensive and best-sounding audiophile speakers are made by Magico. For a quick summary, the Californian firm’s flagship M9 stand-up vehicles cost just under a million dollars; The smaller M7s within that top-tier range will cost just over $550,000 and the ‘mid-range’ S3 we’re hearing in 2023 will cost around £60,000, $71,330 or AU$106,860, depending on which trim you choose.
Oh, and the company’s “entry-level” Magico S2 foot products, launched in December 2024, cost between £41,500 and £49,998 a pair (approximately $52,990 to $63,840). Do you have all that? Good.
So what do you get for £159,000 per pair (up to £178,000 per pair depending on which trim you choose, so starting at around $212,790 or AU$301,600, give or take), which is the MSRP for the new “scratch-built” 2026 S7?
Fasten your seatbelt; It’s a lot.
Magic S7 2026: what you need to know
Since Magico’s first commercial product 22 years ago, the Californian audio outfit has been continually harnessing science and engineering to deliver some of the best-sounding speakers on the planet. If you’re thinking about traditional wooden boxes reinforced with bass reflex ports, made with old recipes tested in a traditional workshop among the hills, that’s not Magic.
During development, Magico tells me that a near-field scanner (NFS) robot was employed to “perform comprehensive acoustic measurements across the entire 3D sphere surrounding the speaker.” This extensive analysis was used to create a “complete acoustic map” of the S7, allowing Magico engineers to refine its performance. That’s the level of incremental gains we’re talking about here; Mágico always cares about improvements. And that makes me desperate to listen to them…
The S7 2026 (for that’s the model’s full name) replaces the original S7 at the top of the S Series, Magico’s “mid-tier” range nestled between the A Series and the aforementioned mighty M Series, where those million-dollar speakers reside.
But this is Magico, so while the 2026 edition speaker bears the same name as the previous S7 (discontinued in 2025 after 10 years of production), it’s an entirely new model that’s apparently been “designed from the ground up.”
Of course, the new model benefits from Magico’s previous innovations, and Magico is quick to tell me that this model uses the same tweeter unit as the flagship M9, with a 28mm diamond-coated beryllium diaphragm.
This time, it’s built with a 6-inch (15.24 cm) midrange driver and three 10-inch (25.4 cm) bass units, all featuring Magico’s exclusive Gen 8 Nano-Tec cones.
Other highlights include Magico’s patented Elliptical Symmetry Crossover plus a “beautifully sculpted aluminum case,” which measures an imposing 1.42 m tall and weighs 174 kg or 384 lbs (so factor in shipping costs from Magico’s facility in the San Francisco Bay area of Northern California, where each pair is manufactured). Additionally, the Magico S7 2026 will begin shipping in the third quarter of this year, available in 12 color options and two trim levels.
Honestly? I need to listen to them. I will move mountains to listen to them; being in a room where they are displayed and heard.

The best stereo speakers for all budgets.
