- IKEA’s Kallsup Bluetooth speakers are now on sale in the US for $10
- They caught our attention at CES and were originally scheduled for release in April.
- They sound awesome for the price and you can pair up to 100 of them.
IKEA’s cute and quirky Kallsup speaker caught our attention at this year’s CES show in Las Vegas, and now it can be yours for just $10. The colorful little speaker was originally scheduled for release in April, but it looks like someone at IKEA just couldn’t wait because it’s already available in stores and online, so you can grab a pack and start stacking them now.
The portable Bluetooth speaker is unlike anything we’ve seen lately, with its compact cubic design and vivid colors, and it’s no slouch in the audio department either. TechRadar reviews editor Josh Russell got his hands and ears on Kallsup in January and reported that it sounds “better than it should.”
“Honestly, I’m kind of in love with Kallsup’s design,” he said after seeing and hearing the speaker in person. “I’ve previously complained about how many wireless speakers seem to be cut from the same acoustically transparent cloth these days, so it’s really nice to see a device that breaks all the rules.”
You don’t have to settle for just one Kallsup, though: these little cubes are simply begging to be stacked, and thanks to their Bluetooth 5.3 support, you can pair up to 100 of them to create what Josh cheerfully called a “sonic skyscraper.”
At the time of writing, Kallsup is available in white and chartreuse, but we also got our hands on a hot pink version, so we’re hoping it hits IKEA’s virtual and physical shelves soon. As the German site Notebookcheck explains, it is also available in Germany and Sweden, where buyers can choose between three colors, and Portugal, where the only option is white.
See things in a new light
Kallsup isn’t the only fun new IKEA product to arrive ahead of its scheduled release date. The donut-shaped Varmblixt smart lamp, with its frosted glass and shifting pastel colors, also arrived early. The light, which caused even more of a stir at CES than the Kallsup, was also due to launch in April, but it just arrived in the US for $99.99.
Lance Ulanoff, our editor-at-large, soon became obsessed with the lamp’s striking design and imagined they would look stunning grouped on a wall.
“With each press of the remote control, I watched the color change almost imperceptibly, and then slowly transition to the new, fully dimmable shade,” he wrote after seeing a collection of them in person.
So far, the Varmblixt lamp has only been seen in stores in Europe, but if Kallsup is anything to go by, we might not have to wait until April to make our dreams of a wall full of glowing donuts come true.
