ISLAMABAD:
Operation ‘Ghazab Lil Haq’ entered its eighth consecutive day on Friday, with security forces continuing ground and air operations against the Afghan Taliban and ‘Fitna al-Khawarij’, a term used for Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
Sources said the army continues to carry out effective ground and air actions. They added that the military strategy has caused heavy losses to Afghan Taliban operatives and forced them to retreat during the ongoing operation.
As of Friday, security sources said 527 Afghan Taliban regime operatives had been killed, while more than 755 had been wounded since the operation began. They added that 237 checkpoints were also destroyed during the campaign.
Officials said Pakistani forces captured 38 posts and subsequently destroyed them during the course of the operation. Furthermore, security sources further stated that 205 tanks, armored vehicles and artillery pieces belonging to the Afghan Taliban forces were also destroyed.
Additionally, 62 locations across Afghanistan were effectively hit during air operations. Officials said the military continues to take effective and decisive actions in response to unprovoked aggression by the Afghan Taliban.
During the operation, Pakistani forces also destroyed terrorist hideouts located along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border in areas adjacent to Zhob Sector and Qila Saifullah Sector. Afghan Taliban agents were forced to abandon their posts and flee.
Security sources said Pakistani forces used heavy artillery fire against posts controlled by the Afghan Taliban and ‘Fitna al-Khawarij’ during the operation. The officials added that Operation ‘Ghazab Lil Haq’ will continue until its objectives are achieved.
Meanwhile, the United Nations said thousands of Pakistanis have been forced to flee their homes due to fighting along their shared border.
“Clashes along the Afghanistan-Pakistan border have forced thousands of families to flee,” the UN refugee agency said in a statement.
“The situation in Afghanistan and Pakistan remains tense amid active conflict along the border, with reports of internal displacement in both countries,” UNHCR said, warning that “some 115,000 people in Afghanistan and around 3,000 people in Pakistan” have been displaced.
