Ukrainian biathlete trains with ChatGPT and wins silver medal at the Paralympic Games

After training with ChatGPT for the past six months, Ukrainian biathlete Maksym Murashkovskyi won a silver medal at the Milan 2026 Cortina Paralympic Games.

Murashkovskyi, 25, said he used the AI ​​chatbot in various ways throughout his training.

“For the last six months I have been training with ChatGPT,” Murashkovskyi said, according to The Athletic. “It wasn’t just about tactics. It was half of my training plan, motivation, etc. So it was a huge volume of all my training.

“I used him as a psychologist, coach and sometimes as a doctor.”

Murashkovskyi won some medals at the Parabiathlon World Cup in January and credited ChatGPT for his success.

“I also won a few medals there, and even a gold one. So I can give a lot of credit to ChatGPT,” he said. “I believe in it, it is a revolutionary technology.”

Murashkovskyi was asked if AI could replace coaches, psychologists and doctors, and he agreed to some extent.

“Not entirely for five to ten years. But partly, definitely.”

Murashkovskyi competed under the NS3 classification, which applies to athletes with the lowest level of visual impairment. He ran the race with his ski guide, Vitaly Trush. For NS2 and NS3 competitors, ski guides are optional, but are mandatory for NS1 athletes.

Murashkovskyi finished with a time of 33:41.1 in the men’s individual event for the visually impaired on Sunday. He was just over two minutes behind Chinese gold medalist Dang Hesong and beat compatriot Dmytro Suiarko for second place.
