Repression against speculators continues

The anti-profiteering campaign continues across the city to ensure maximum relief is provided to citizens.

In this regard, a meeting to review action against overpricing was held at the commissioner’s office, chaired by Karachi Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi.

During the meeting, the commissioner ordered all deputy commissioners to take strict action against speculators and ensure that official prices are strictly implemented.

The commissioner directed officials to show no leniency towards those involved in overcharging. He also directed officials on the ground to take action on the ground against profiteers to ensure availability of essential commodities at official prices.

Meanwhile, members of the commissioner’s monitoring team, including additional commissioners and deputy commissioners, submitted a report on the actions taken on the ground so far in the month of Ramadan. The report mentions that fines of Rs 34.5 million have been imposed on 4,243 profiteers during the last 19 days.

In addition, 91 stores were closed and 90 speculators were arrested, while prices were checked at 18,771 points in the city.
