Electoral delimitations for Murree district have been completed under the Local Government Act, 2025, according to a new notification issued by Secretary, Punjab Local Government and Community Development Department.
Under the revised agreements, the hill town of Murree, often called “Queen of Hills”, has been granted the status of a fully autonomous Municipal Corporation. The newly formed Murree Municipal Corporation (MMC) will comprise 17 union councils and has a total population of 132,005 residents.
Meanwhile, the Murree Tehsil Council will consist of 15 union councils, with a combined population of 1,20,521.
In the second tehsil of the district, Kotli Sattian, two local government institutions have been established. The first is the Kotli Sattian Municipal Committee, which will cover the urban area and include three union councils, with a population of 26,067.
The Tehsil Kotli Sattian Council, on the other hand, will comprise 12 union councils and will serve a population of 94,354 people.
Additionally, Murree Hills Cantonment will continue to function as an independent LG entity.
