- Workers and executives only see 14-16 minutes of net time savings from AI, report says
- Most of the time saved is spent verifying facts and validating results.
- Most executives say they plan to retrain and upskill workers.
Most executives (89%) and workers (79%) now agree that while AI is improving productivity, exactly how much time they are saving is up for debate.
New research from Foxit suggests that real-time gains could be minimal compared to the potential, simply because of the amount of time workers have to spend trusting and understanding AI tools.
According to the report’s data, executives have only gained 16 minutes per week and workers only 14 minutes, despite AI’s bold claims.

AI isn’t actually saving you much time…yet
On the other hand, executives spent four hours and 20 minutes validating the results, while workers spent an equally significant three hours and 50 minutes checking the generated content.
Foxit calls this a “verification burden,” where the time saved creating content is offset by fact-checking and making other corrections.
Although they spend more time verifying, 60% of executives say they are very confident in AI results, but only about one in three workers are confident. This lack of trust was the second biggest barrier to AI, cited by 34% of workers, slightly surpassed by concerns about privacy and data security (36%). Concerns about accuracy were also raised (25%).
But change could be on the horizon, as nearly three-quarters (72%) of executives focus on retraining or upskilling employees to handle AI.
“The next phase of document intelligence will not be defined by more AI capabilities, but by embedding accurate and transparent intelligence directly into workflows,” wrote senior vice president of marketing Evan Reiss, “reducing validation time and keeping humans firmly in control.”
