- Phil Lord and Chris Miller have revealed if they would like to direct Sony’s Spider-Man Universe reboot.

The producers behind the Spider-Verse Movies have revealed whether they would be open to overseeing the Sony Spider-Man Universe (SSU) reboot.
In an exclusive chat with TechRadar, Phil Lord and Chris Miller did not rule out the possibility. However, they also admitted that “many hypotheses” would need to be met for that to become a reality.
The discussion was part of a larger interview about the duo’s new sci-fi epic. Ave Maria Project (NB: look at my Ave Maria Project review to see if it’s worth watching). The Ryan Gosling-directed film is the first big-screen project Lord and Miller have directed since 2014. Jump Street 22as a result of countless production roles the couple has held over the past decade.

Of those productions, four have focused on Spider-Man or, rather, alternative versions of the superhero alias of one Peter Parker. In fact, Lord and Miller have supervised work on the first two Spider-Verse movies and are also leading the development of the final entry in the film trilogy, Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
Additionally, Lord and Miller executive produced black spidera live-action 1930s show starring Nicolas Cage coming to MGM+ (US) and Prime Video (internationally) on May 27.
Given their involvement in numerous projects outside of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) starring various incarnations of the wall-crawler, the pair appear ideally positioned to spearhead version 2.0 of SSU.
Last December, Sony Pictures appeared to end its film franchise without Spider-Man after a series of critical and commercial failures. However, just two months later, the studio’s film chief Tom Rothman indicated (per the On the Town podcast) that Sony was planning to reboot SSU at some point.
In the event that Sony asked them to be the creative overlords of SSU – you know, like Kevin Feige at Marvel, James Gunn/Peter Safran at DC, and Dave Filoni/Lynwen Brennan at Star Wars – then would Lord and Miller be interested?
“That’s a big ‘yes,'” Lord responded. “That’s the biggest ‘yes’ in the world.”
“There are so many hypotheses in the universe,” Miller added. “But, as you know, we’re big fans of Spider-Man and that whole universe, so who knows?”
