How Man of Tomorrow Could Simplify One of DC Comics’ Most Complicated Romances
It remains to be seen how Pierre’s Stewart will influence AcuityThe story of. However, an actor who appeared in Gunn’s Superman The film has already suggested that Stewart’s possible involvement could allow next year’s sequel to explore a particular romantic subplot between Stewart and her character.
Speaking with Nerdist during the Superman At the press tour, Isabela Merced, who played Kendra Saunders/Hawkgirl in the first DCU Chapter One movie, mentioned that possibility.
“I really love the idea, and that’s why I love the Lois and Clark stories, like that love story between aliens and humans,” Merced said. “To me there’s something very romantic about that. It’s like ‘We shouldn’t, but we should, but we shouldn’t.'”
The main obstacle to fulfilling Merced’s wish is that Stewart and Hawkgirl have an incredibly complicated relationship in a lot of DC projects.
On the one hand, in the justice league animated series and the broader history of DC comics, this complex dynamic actually exists between Stewart and Shayera Hol, who have gone by the superhuman pseudonyms Hawkgirl and Hawkwoman. Meanwhile, Saunders is most commonly associated with Carter Hall, aka Hawkman.
However, given Hawkgirl’s extremely complicated backstory, not helped by numerous retcons of the source material, it’s possible that the DCU will simplify things. The easiest way to do it? Make Stewart and Saunders get along in The man of tomorrow. Or, at the very least, start laying the groundwork for a romantic relationship by creating some sexual tension in said movie. Just don’t make it as flashy as Bruce Banner and Natasha Romanoff’s brief flirtation in Marvel’s. Age of Ultron Movie, please, Mr. Gunn.
