It would be a sin to give the Oscar to someone else
But let’s not forget that Sinners leads with an incredible 16 nominations. Sixteen!
To put that in perspective, it’s the most in Oscar history with not one but two nominations, although this includes a new Best Supporting Supporting category, but it’s incredible. One movie that didn’t come close to the typical awards season window toward the end of the year and about bloody vampires is the FIRST-EVER Academy Awards OPERA.
However, despite that and perhaps because of the unstoppable juggernaut that Battle After Battle has been the bulk of awards season with 13 nominations, it also managed to position itself as the underdog.
Cards on the table
Here are my predictions so you can hold me accountable later…
Best Actor: Timothée Chalamet
Best Original Music: Ludwig Göransson
One sinner after another
Since Barbenheimer’s year, no two films have completely dominated the Oscar conversation. A battle after a sinner? One sinner after another? Hmmmm, there really isn’t a good acronym for them…
It’s pretty common for Sinners or One Battle After Another to take home the big awards for Cinematography, Director, Screenplay, and some of the other acting categories.
