Zendaya has revealed that she went on a trip Twilight marathon to prepare to work with Robert Pattinson, and the man himself only found out about it on the way to the red carpet premiere of his film.
The couple stars together the dramathe new dark comedy that follows an engaged couple whose wedding week falls apart after one of them reveals a big secret.
Before filming, Zendaya realized that somehow she had never seen anything of Twilight films despite being exactly the right age to have been swept up in madness, and decided it was time to remedy that before working with Edward Cullen himself.
“I thought, ‘How come I’ve never seen these movies before?'” he said. The Hollywood Reporter at the film’s premiere in Los Angeles on Tuesday.
“But I felt like I had to do it, it’s like a cultural phenomenon I hadn’t been a part of yet. I saw them all in one day. It was great, I enjoyed it.”
Pattinson, standing nearby, had no idea he had done this until moments before the red carpet.
“It’s interesting, [she’s like] “I just have to see what it’s about,” he joked. He had a slight lead, but putting his achievement at five films in two days instead of one, “that’s impressive,” he said either way.
“It was so much fun, I love working with her. I think she’s great and I would do it again and again.”
Zendaya was equally enthusiastic about the film itself, describing the characters and their situation as truly unlike anything audiences have seen before in a romantic comedy.
“These characters are unique. They are very unique people and the circumstances are quite unique and reveal a lot about love, about what we are willing to do for love, what we are willing to accept and how much you really know your partner,” he said.
