Atlanta Hawks star Jonathan Kuminga made likely the sixth-longest basket in NBA history during the third quarter of the team’s 135-120 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday at American Airlines Center.
Kuminga, 23, grabbed a rebound under his own basket with about five seconds left in the quarter. He took one dribble and appeared to throw a pass across the court to an open Jock Landale under the rim, waiting for a quick layup.
Instead, Kuminga’s 75-foot pass went through the net for a three-pointer. Kuminga, apparently in disbelief that he had made the basket, put his hands on his head, stunned that he had made it.

The basket was the longest made by a Hawks player in the play-by-play era and the sixth-longest among all players in the play-by-play era since 1997-98, according to Elias Sports. The previous longest basket by a Hawks player was a 63-foot basket by Jason Terry on January 5, 2000.
Kuminga’s basket was one of many highlights in the Hawks’ 11th straight victory. The winning streak has propelled the Hawks to the No. 8 seed in the Eastern Conference.
