- The wheel of time returns as an animated show
- Prime Video canceled its live-action adaptation in mid-2025
- Fans are already concerned about the revival and the studio behind it.
The wheel of time (TWO) is officially returning as an animated TV show, and fans of Robert Jordan’s high fantasy book series don’t want this to happen for one big reason.
10 months after Prime Video canceled its live-action adaptation of The wheel of timeJordan’s works are set to take on a new life in the form of a television anime. For variety, TWO Rights holders iwot Studios will develop the show alongside Initiate Entertainment. The latter company is co-owned by Thomas Vu, one of the many producers who worked on Arcanethe hit Netflix anime series based on Riot Games League of Legends video game franchise.
iwot Studios is no stranger to TWO PI. In addition to owning the rights to the brand, iwot CEO Rick Selvage and Chief Content Officer Larry Mondragon were producers of Amazon’s live-action reimagining of Jordan’s novels. iwot is also believed to be working on animated films and a role-playing game (RPG) that will continue to expand its universe beyond the confines of the page.

“I see a tremendous opportunity in the expansion The wheel of time into fully authentic, integrated, interactive and animated narrative experiences,” Vu said in a statement. “The depth of the mythology provides a foundation for the sustained growth of the multi-platform franchise.”
Why are Wheel of Time fans angry about this news?
Feel bad for Wheel of Time fans, imagine your show is finally taking off, then boom, it’s canceled and now you’re getting an AI animated series, heck.March 20, 2026
It is not clear if The wheel of timeThe animated offering would pick up where its live-action portrayal left off following its elimination after three seasons. It’s also unknown if showrunner Rafe Judkins would return to help develop it, nor if any of its main cast could reprise their roles from the Prime Video show, although only in voiceover roles. There’s nothing to report on which of the world’s best streaming services it will release on as well.
One thing we do know, however, is that many sections of TWOThe fanbase has reacted negatively to this news.
On the one hand, TWO Fans are still angry that their live-action show was canceled in the first place. In fact, in the weeks following its elimination, fans campaigned vigorously to “find the show a new home” after The wheel of timeCancellation after three seasons. Unfortunately, their pleas fell on deaf ears.
As long as iwot is involved expect crushing disappointment https://t.co/jP3cIzgi8ZMarch 19, 2026
That is far from the only reason why TWOHowever, the fanbase does not want to see it turned into an anime.
In February, iwot struck a deal with visual effects (VFX) studio Framestore to launch an artificial intelligence (AI)-enabled platform. According to Variety, it will “offer brands asset management tools to facilitate collaboration on projects across multiple platforms” and “enable studios to unify their production environments across film, television, video games, animation, advertising, immersive experiences, social platforms and user-generated content.”
The first IP this tool will use? Yes, you guessed it. The wheel of time.
Okay, but can we just renew the existing program? https://t.co/0pjUSVXeEZMarch 19, 2026
With AI becoming an increasingly prevalent (not to mention highly controversial) presence in the entertainment space, TWO Fans are worried and frustrated at the prospect of iwot’s animated show not only being made using AI, but becoming the latest project deemed “a waste of AI.”
In fact, hard TWO Fans have taken to social media platforms, including X/Twitter and Reddit, to voice their opposition to what they perceive as the “franchising and sloppiness” of the beloved franchise. Meanwhile, others simply want their canceled live-action iteration to be renewed.
There are some who wouldn’t care TWO animated series directed by one of ArcaneThe producers, as long as AI isn’t involved, anyway. However, in online circles these fans are clearly a minority. Time will tell if they were right to be positive about this production or not.
