RAWALPINDI:
Former Prime Minister Imran Khan was allowed to phone his sons, Kasim and Sulaiman, from Rawalpindi’s Adial Jail on Eid Day. The imprisoned PTI founder spoke to his children, who live in the United Kingdom, for about 25 to 30 minutes.
According to sources, during the conversation, the sons inquired about their father’s health, while Imran expressed his happiness at being able to talk to them on the festive occasion.
The PTI founder was taken out of the complex to a special room for the call and after the conversation, he was taken back to the complex, sources added.
Imran Khan, detained since August 2023, faces restrictions on meeting his family and lawyers and calling his children on the phone since late last year.
Ahead of Eid on March 17, PTI Chairman Advocate Gohar Ali Khan, while speaking to reporters outside Adiala Jail, said that any formal announcement on any protest movement against the government or talks with it will be made by the opposition leaders in the National Assembly and the Senate.
“[Mahmood Khan] “Achakzai, along with Allama Raja Nasir Abbas, has been given the mandate to decide on protest and negotiation strategies,” Gohar said, adding that the party urged both leaders to use all available political options.
Achakzai and Abbas were respectively elected opposition leaders in the National Assembly and the Senate with the support of the PTI following the disqualification of their predecessors. They lead the PkMAP and MWM parties respectively.
Gohar rejected the impression that the internal problems were caused by the PTI founder’s sisters.
