KARACHI:

The austerity subcommittee of the Sindh Cabinet has ordered that 60% of government vehicles in multiple departments be removed from the roads, in a move aimed at reducing fuel consumption and government expenditure.

Sub-committee chairman and Sindh Chief Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said that out of a total of 2,837 vehicles in over 47 departments, 1,524 vehicles have been removed from the roads. The affected departments include health, finance, school education, energy and anti-corruption.

He added that in some departments the reduction has exceeded 65 percent, while all vehicles of the Interprovincial Coordination Department have been completely immobilized. The decision was made in view of rising fuel costs and with the aim of significantly reducing government expenses.

Sharjeel said the move is aimed at reducing energy consumption, cutting public expenditure and ensuring efficient utilization of resources. He stressed that the provincial government is strictly implementing its austerity policy in the national interest.

He further noted that these measures will not only reduce expenditure but also improve management of government resources, resulting in saving millions of rupees in fuel costs.

All departments have been ordered to fully comply with the policy, while essential and emergency vehicles will continue to operate as required.
