Edward takes on new role in surprise announcement amid Sophie’s upset

King Charles III’s younger brother Prince Edward has been honored with a new role amid his wife’s concerns about his ex’s claims and possible revelations in a new book.

The Duke of Edinburgh has been named the new patron of Viva Arts and Community Group amid continuing tensions with the royal family over scandals.

The announcement, made on World Theater Day, was described by the charity as a “significant and celebratory moment”.

Daniel Schumann, founder and chairman of the board of Viva Arts, said: “We are absolutely thrilled and deeply honored that HRH The Duke of Edinburgh has agreed to become a patron of Viva Arts and the Community Group.

“His visit to open our theater in 2023 meant a lot to our organisation, our volunteers and the wider Soham community. The Duke showed a genuine interest in our work and the difference the arts can make to people’s lives.”

“Being able to continue that relationship through their sponsorship is incredibly special to us, and announcing this on World Theater Day is particularly fitting.”

Viva Arts and Community Group offers theater productions, workshops, community projects and educational programs, with the goal of “inspiring confidence, creativity and connection” among people of all ages.

As patron, the Duke of Edinburgh will support Viva’s mission to enrich lives through the arts, championing community engagement, creativity and access to theater and cultural activities across the region.

Her Majesty Lord Lieutenant of Cambridgeshire, Julie Spence, said: “The Duke of Edinburgh’s patronage is a wonderful recognition of the important work Viva is doing, and I know it will inspire the organization to continue to grow and reach more people in the years to come.”

Schumann praised the decision, calling the announcement “a wonderful endorsement of the work our team and volunteers do to make the arts accessible to everyone.”
