Meryl Streep has revealed that Anne Hathaway made a direct intervention with producers of The Devil Wears Prada 2 about the body sizes of the film’s models, receiving a promise that the casting would not resemble what she witnessed on the real catwalks of Milan Fashion Week.

talking to Harper’s Bazaar In an interview published Wednesday, March 25, Streep, 76, described attending real fashion shows during Milan Fashion Week as research for the sequel.

What she saw made her hesitate.

“I was struck not only by how beautiful and young all the young people looked to me, but also by how alarmingly thin the models were,” she said.

“I thought everything was solved years ago.”

Hathaway, 43, apparently had the same reaction and acted immediately.

“Annie saw it too,” Streep continued, “and went directly to the producers about it, securing promises that the models on the show we were putting together for our movie wouldn’t be so skeletal.”

Streep’s verdict on her co-star was unequivocal: “She’s a no-nonsense girl.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Streep reflected on the extraordinary audience reaction to filming the sequel in New York City last summer, alongside returning cast members including Hathaway, Emily Blunt and Stanley Tucci.

The level of attention even took her by surprise.

“While we were aware of the impact of the first film two decades ago, I don’t think any of us were prepared for the ambush of goodwill and eager attention that engulfed us,” he said.

“We needed police barriers and crowd control.”

On the topic of her acting approach, Streep confirmed that she has left method acting behind. He remembered the misery of trying for the original film.
