PM Shehbaz, Chinese envoy discuss CPEC, economic ties


Both sides recognize progress in strengthening bilateral relations and expressed satisfaction with the ongoing exchanges.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday met Chinese Ambassador HE Jiang Zaidong at Prime Minister House to discuss Pakistan’s economic ties with China and ongoing bilateral projects.

According to the press release, the premier congratulated the Chinese leadership on the successful conclusion of the “Two Sessions” and thanked President Xi Jinping, Premier Li Qiang and Foreign Minister Wang Yi for their warm greetings on Pakistan Day. The Prime Minister emphasized Pakistan’s continued commitment to promoting the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) 2.0, with a particular focus on agriculture, industrial cooperation and key infrastructure projects.

Ambassador Jiang expressed China’s appreciation for Pakistan’s resilience and reform efforts and offered continued support on trade and investment.

Both sides recognized the progress in strengthening bilateral relations and expressed satisfaction with the ongoing exchanges. They also hoped to mark the 75th anniversary of diplomatic relations with high-level engagements.

Furthermore, the statement said Prime Minister Sharif highlighted Pakistan’s role in promoting de-escalation and regional stability.

He reaffirmed the long-standing “All-Weather Strategic Cooperative Partnership” between Pakistan and China and the importance of continued close coordination on issues of mutual interest.

The discussions reinforced the strong economic relationship between Pakistan and China, underlining their commitment to enhance bilateral cooperation in various sectors. The meeting was also attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar, Special Assistant to Prime Minister Syed Tariq Fatemi and Foreign Secretary.
