- Dying Light: The Beast has received a huge new update from developer Techland
- ‘Earth Restored’ adds new modes, features and improvements
- Mainly, players now have the opportunity to completely eliminate zombies from the game map and restore the land to normal.
Dying Light: The Beast I just got a big update that includes a brand new mode that transforms the way it is played and, crucially, how you finish it.
Dying Light: The Earth Beast Restored is a massive update to the game arriving today (March 26). A completely new mode with the same name is at the heart of this update and promises to present a serious challenge for dying light fans.
In Restored Land, the game’s survival mechanics have been improved to the point that even dying light Veterans will be evaluated. Fewer supplies, hunger management, and limited flashlight batteries are signs of the challenge ahead. Add in a permadeath mode for the most committed players and the toughness will only increase.

And there is more. In Dying Light: The Beast restored land“all actions have permanent consequences.” Zombies do not respawn after being killed, looted items do not respawn, and even stores will have a dwindling stock of supplies, sold at higher prices. However, there is an advantage to this: by clearing areas of zombies, protagonist Kyle Crane can literally restore the land, and the survivors will return and repopulate the place, gradually returning the world to a semblance of normality and providing rewards for doing so.
As a result of this ability to restore and heal the land, Techland confirmed to me that players can now, almost literally, “complete the map” by getting rid of all zombies completely.
The Restored Land update also brings a ton of new content to the game. Chief among these are the ‘Roadkill Rallies’. Known as ‘Carmageddon in dying light‘ by the team, this mode is a competitive racing series where players can, unsurprisingly, crush zombies en masse with upgraded, spiked cars. There will be leaderboards, time-based missions, and plenty of mayhem here in solo or co-op.
Techland is also rolling out a wide range of technical fixes and optimizations with this update, from ray tracing to dodge timing fixes, but it’s also adding some extra goodies in the form of new trophies and achievements, new mission and story encounters, finishers, and special zombie fights.
Overall, this is a huge update that Techland says makes The Beast “almost incomparable to the game that launched in September,” and should be enough to please both returning players and newcomers to the game.
While the core element of Kyle Crane’s abilities in the game is geared towards him adopting his ‘beast mode’, this update feels somewhat similar, and Techland says that this is ‘the beast mode version of the game’ in our call, and I can’t wait to enjoy it again.
Dying Light: The Earth Beast Restored will be a free update for current owners of the game, but will also be available as a full edition of the game, including all post-launch content, to purchase on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC, and is available right now.
