Everyone Says Bitcoin (BTC) Prices Are Resilient, Maybe It’s Just Complacency: Crypto Daybook Americas

By Omkar Godbole (All times ET unless otherwise noted)

Bitcoin It has been trading in a tight range lately, with volatility rates surprisingly calm despite the Iran war, oil crises and expectations of Federal Reserve rate hikes looming over the market.

Bulls call it resilience. But if we zoom out and look at other markets, perhaps it is simply complacency and could lead to a brutal reality check.

Take oil, for example. WTI is up 37% this month to $91.84, and some analysts say $200 is not out of the question. Call options on oil are now three times more expensive than put options. That’s a pretty clear sign of massive bullish positioning. All of this means more inflation and economic shocks ahead.

In the US Treasury market, the MOVE index, which tracks expected volatility in the backbone of global finance, has soared 33% to 98.00. Increased debt volatility in the world’s largest economy, which underpins global finances, typically leads to a credit crunch around the world.

Compare that to bitcoin’s implied volatility index, BVIV, which has actually fallen between 7% and 54%. Resilience or complacency? Some companies think it is the latter.

“Notably, short-term implied volatilities have compressed to their lowest levels since February, indicating a degree of market complacency regarding this tail risk,” TDX Strategies said in a market note.

The firm recommends “gamma stacking,” basically betting on big moves in select altcoins, as an indirect hedge for your portfolio.

As of now, bitcoin is down 2.4% on the day to $69,500. Ether (ETH), XRP (XRP) and solana (SOL) are doing the same, while non-serious tokens like They are suffering a bigger blow, with a drop of almost 5%.

The backdrop doesn’t help: Iran just rejected the US peace plan, setting conditions that include closing all US bases in the Gulf, reparations for the attacks, lifting all sanctions and keeping its missile program unrestricted. The United States will likely disagree, leaving the situation stagnant and risk assets on edge.

The dollar index is rising, Treasury yields are rising and US stock index futures are in the red. Stay alert!
