Punjab Education Minister announces resumption of classes from April 1

Provincial government dismisses alleged notification that falsely claims schools would adopt ‘four-day work week’

Punjab School Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat on Monday announced that educational activities in the province would resume from April 1.

In a post on X, he stated: “Educational activities will resume in educational institutions with regular classes five days a week from April 1.”

Earlier, a purported notification was circulating on social media claiming that schools would follow a four-day work week. The Punjab government responded quickly, rejecting the contents of the notification.

“The Punjab government refutes in the strongest terms the content of this ‘false’ notification regarding school timings circulating on the Internet,” the statement said.

The government shared an image of the fake notification, which falsely claimed that schools would adopt a “four-day work week” due to the current crisis.

Additionally, it advised parents to remain vigilant for unverified documents and notifications.

“Please note that such notifications do not come from non-government sources. Parents and guardians are advised to maintain vigilance against such unverified documents or notifications and contact relevant government departments in case of any ambiguity,” the Punjab government added.

On March 9, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz announced the closure of all educational institutions in the province until the end of the month.

In addition, the provincial government had also imposed restrictions on fuel use by government officials, as part of efforts to manage power shortages.

New standard operating procedures were introduced to ensure continuity of fuel supplies while implementing austerity measures to conserve resources in response to the ongoing conflict in the Middle East, which has disrupted energy supplies.
