Who is Scott Mills? BBC Radio 2 presenter sacked for ‘personal conduct’

Scott Mills, one of the BBC’s best-known voices, has been sacked from Radio 2 following allegations about his personal conduct.

The BBC confirmed that it “no longer has a contract to work with the BBC”, although it declined to provide further details.

The 53-year-old had just taken over the Radio 2 morning show from Zoe Ball in January 2025.

It quickly increased viewership to 6.5 million listeners, making it the most listened to morning show in the UK.

His departure came suddenly, and colleagues and listeners learned of the news after Gary Davies stepped in as host of the show the morning after Mills closed with a casual “I’ll be back tomorrow.”

Mills has been a fixture at the BBC for over 25 years, starting on Radio 1 in 1998, where he became a staple of weekday programming and later presented the Official Chart.

He moved to Radio 2 in 2022, replacing Steve Wright in the afternoon slot, before being promoted to breakfast presenter.

As well as radio, Mills has appeared on television, providing Eurovision commentary and competing on Strictly Come Dancing in 2014.

He made cameo appearances in dramas such as Casualty and soap operas such as Hollyoaks.

He also won the Celebrity Race Across the World in 2024.

According to the BBC, Mills was listed as the corporation’s eleventh highest-paid star.

His sudden dismissal has shocked colleagues and the public alike, with BBC music director Lorna Clarke acknowledging in an internal email that the news would be “sudden and unexpected”.

For now, Mills’ future in broadcasting remains uncertain, but his decades-long career in radio and television has established him as one of Britain’s most recognizable presenters.
