Lahore has introduced dedicated lanes for cyclists and motorcyclists in a bid to improve road safety and traffic flow.

Officials say the initiative will help reduce accidents and ensure safer commuting for two-wheeler users, Express News reported.

The project will be implemented in phases and will eventually cover all major roads in the city.

In the first phase, a 10-kilometer cycle path is being constructed along Ferozepur Road, from Canal Road to Lahore Bridge. Lanes are marked with a distinctive green color to improve visibility.

Authorities believe that the adoption of this global urban infrastructure model will lead to fewer accidents and smoother traffic movement.

The Punjab Chief Minister has directed officials to ensure high-quality construction standards for the project.

Last week, several stretches of Pakistan’s highways were closed due to heavy fog, causing major traffic disruptions in some parts of Punjab.

According to a statement from the motorway police, sections of the M2, M11 and M5 motorways were closed to ensure the safety of travellers, Express News reported.

The affected areas include the stretch from Lahore to Hiran Minar on the M2, from Sialkot to Lahore on the M11 and from Rahim Yar Khan to Rohri on the M5.

Saeed Imran Ahmed, spokesman for the highway police, explained that dense fog reduces visibility, which increases the risk of accidents, especially when drivers do not maintain lane discipline. He urged road users to exercise caution and follow traffic guidelines to avoid collisions.

Highway police have advised travelers to avoid unnecessary travel during foggy conditions.

Closures are expected to remain in place until visibility improves.

Authorities are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updates on road conditions.
