- A native WhatsApp app for CarPlay is being tested
- Beta version is now available
- Includes a visual interface with access to contacts, call history, and more.
If you use WhatsApp and CarPlay, you probably know that the former is currently limited on the latter. There’s no native app, so you have to use Siri to perform tasks, and it lacks a visual interface. But that’s about to change.
As reported by WABetaInfo, there is now a native WhatsApp app available for CarPlay, but so far only in beta.
This app allows you to view your chat list and you can optionally filter it to only show conversations with unread messages. You can tap a chat to send a new message, or tap ‘New Message’ to send one to anyone in your address book.

You can send messages and call but not read.
The app supports light and dark modes and you can also view call history, contacts you have marked as favorites and a screen showing your main profile details and of course you can also initiate calls with the app. What you can’t do is open a conversation to read all the messages it contains, as that would not be safe while driving.
Being a beta version, some features may be added or removed before the final release, but as these are mostly core features we expect them to remain largely intact.
You can get the beta version through the TestFlight app, but keep in mind that it may have some bugs, so you may prefer to wait for the final version, which will hopefully be available soon and will be available on the App Store once it arrives.
