Worrying macOS malware scheme discovered
A timely reminder for World Backup Day, as Malwarebytes reveals a worrying new malware scheme for macOS. Infiniti Stealer targets macOS users and tricks victims into executing malicious terminal code to steal browser credentials, keychain data, wallets, and screenshots.

“Very convincing” and very false
In this article, the TechnologyRadar The team reports on the rise of sophisticated-looking but very fake SSDs, and how to avoid falling into the traps set by scammers. Read more here.
Why should you have a regular backup?
There are several reasons to keep a regular backup of your important data, some of which you may have experienced before.
For example, you could be the victim of a ransomware attack that steals or encrypts all of your data, leaving you in the difficult position of risking paying to recover your data (NOT RECOMMENDED), or simply going through life wishing you had made a backup.
Your device could suddenly crash or your storage drive could become corrupted and, again, you’ll wish you had made a backup.
Hindsight is 20-20, so make a backup today so you don’t start wishing you had made one tomorrow.
WD_Black 4TB SSD gets an even bigger discount
As part of World Backup Day, the team here is looking for the best storage deals we can find. And this one well deserves a mention.
Last week, we highlighted the WD_Black SN7100 4TB SSD on sale at Amazon’s Big Spring Sale, but its price has since dropped even further, now down to $590 (was $1,380) at Amazon.com.
At the time, we said the deal “is so good it made me check I wasn’t seeing things. This drive uses a PCIe Gen4 interface and achieves read speeds of up to 7,000 MB/s with write speeds of up to 6,700 MB/s. Those numbers translate to fast file transfers and shorter load times.”
In the UK, the 4TB variant costs £580 on Amazon.co.uk.
Wait, what is “backup”?
A backup is an exact copy of data that is stored elsewhere for redundancy. Something like sending yourself a document by email to always have a copy online. We’ve personally tested many options when it comes to reliable backups.
In the modern world, a backup can be saved to cloud storage, to a NAS storage system in a different location, or even just to a USB flash drive.
For most backups, the backed up files only exist as a snapshot of the data at the time it was backed up (unless the service you are using syncs the data periodically). This is why regular backups are so important.
The best part is that there are plenty of free backup software out there and we highly recommend starting the backup process as soon as possible.
“Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING, you need to keep your data safe from loss and disaster”
Ahead of World Backup Day, our tech expert Wayne Williams has compiled everything, and he means EVERYTHING, you need to keep your data safe, from internal SSDs to desktop NAS.

How big is World Backup Day?
Year after year, Google Trends has shown a big increase for World Backup Day since its launch, always towards the end of March, but the lead-up to World Backup Day 2026 seems to have sparked significantly more interest than usual.
Perhaps some of the major data breaches, ransomware attacks, and data-stealing malware campaigns of 2025 have prompted people to pay more attention to their data.
The World Backup Day commitment
From somewhere in its history, World Backup Day developed a semi-official commitment: “I solemnly swear to back up my important documents and cherished memories on March 31. #WorldBackupDay.”
Of course, it is not legally binding. Which is a shame because the world would be a much better place for consumers, businesses and big businesses alike. Like an oath of office, chief data officers should make it an annual tradition.
