OGRA increases LPG price by Rs 79 per kg

The Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (Ogra) has notified a 35% increase in liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) rates, increasing the cost of a 11.8kg domestic cylinder by Rs 924 for April on the back of a rise in the global market.

In a notification, the regulator fixed the price of LPG at Rs 304.15 per kg for April, compared to Rs 225.84 per kg in March. Accordingly, the price of a 11.8 kg domestic cylinder was fixed at Rs 3,588.60 for April, against Rs 2,664.88 in March.

According to Ogra’s calculation, the producer price of LPG, which comprises 40% propane and 60% butane, was determined at Rs 262,817.53 per tonne in April, against Rs 184,537 per tonne in March. The new price included an excise duty of Rs 85 per tonne.

Therefore, the producer price of an 11.8 kg cylinder was calculated at Rs 3,101.25 for April, compared to Rs 2,177.54 in March. This also included a petroleum tax of Rs 4,669 per tonne and an 18% general sales tax (GST) of Rs 40,091, up from Rs 26,552.94 in March.

For the consumer price, marketing (Rs 17,000), distribution (Rs 10,000) and transportation (Rs 8,000) margins, totaling Rs 35,000 per tonne, were added to the maximum producer price, in addition to an additional 18 per cent GST (Rs 6,300 per tonne on this margin).

The maximum price of LPG to the final consumer was fixed at Rs 304,117.53 per tonne or Rs 3,588.59 for a 11.8 kg domestic cylinder in April, compared to Rs 225,837 per tonne or Rs 2,664.88 for a 11.8 kg domestic cylinder in March. The notification said the new prices would remain in effect until April 30.

Ogra reported that compared to the previous month, Saudi Aramco-CP increased by 44%, while the average dollar exchange rate decreased slightly by 0.11%, resulting in an increase in the consumer price of LPG by Rs 923.71 per 11.8 kg cylinder (34.66%).
