MrBeast sent the internet into a frenzy on Wednesday, April 1, after his announcement that he was leaving YouTube.
On X (formerly known as Twitter), he wrote: “I’m deleting my YouTube channel.”
The YouTube sensation, whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson, uploaded a video and posted several posts on social media saying he was taking a break from the site that propelled him to global stardom.
The announcement immediately went viral, with fans reacting with shock and disbelief on various social media channels.
The news sparked much speculation among fans, who wondered if the young creator, who is only 27 years old, currently has more than 300 million subscribers and is famous for his lavish stunts and philanthropic donations, would be willing to give up his empire.
However, the publication coincides with April Fool’s Day. In recent years, MrBeast has pulled similar pranks on April Fools’ Day. Previously, he used April Fool’s Day to tease fake projects, merchandise drops, and collaborations.
Although some fans were relieved that it wasn’t true, others criticized this prank for creating undue concern among their large number of fans. However, this prank was effective in taking over social media conversations on April Fool’s Day.
