Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said on Thursday that Pakistan was working tirelessly to ease tensions in the Middle East, engaging in talks and diplomatic efforts at various levels as the war between the United States, Israel and Iran continues.
“The flames of war in the region are yet to be extinguished, however, as a friend of all parties, Pakistan has been working tirelessly to ease tensions, engaging in talks and diplomatic efforts at various levels,” Prime Minister Shehbaz said during his address at a meeting held to discuss the regional situation.
The meeting was attended by Chief of Defense Forces and Chief of Army Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir, PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari, Chief Ministers of all provinces and members of the federal cabinet.
Prime Minister Shehbaz expressed deep regret over the ongoing conflict and stated that the conflict had entered its second month, causing significant casualties.
“We mourn the loss of life due to this ongoing conflict and have, on many occasions, expressed our condolences for the deaths,” he said.
The Prime Minister acknowledged the tireless efforts of Deputy Prime Minister and External Affairs Minister Ishaq Dar, who recently returned from China after talks aimed at de-escalating the situation. He praised FM Dar for his active diplomatic efforts and also praised CDF Munir for playing a key role in this effort.
“Thanks to their great efforts, two of our ships that were stuck in the Strait of Hormuz were able to pass through. Recently, another 20 ships crossed successfully,” he added.
Prime Minister Shehbaz also addressed the significant impact of the conflict on Pakistan’s economy and stated that like other countries, Pakistan was also facing serious challenges but the government remained committed to addressing these issues.
He explained that despite Pakistan’s economic difficulties, the government had taken steps to mitigate the situation by providing substantial financial support.
“Through collective efforts, we have provided an overall coverage of Rp139 billion to support our economy, ensuring that the most essential sectors continue to function,” he said.
Prime Minister Shehbaz further emphasized the importance of protecting vulnerable populations and called on all sections, including the elite, to show selflessness.
“Today it is our responsibility to ensure the safety of the poor and protect agriculture and public transportation,” he said, highlighting that additional funding is essential for this purpose.
In his closing remarks, the Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to Chief Ministers of all provinces who supported efforts during the current crisis, particularly highlighting Bilawal’s contributions.
He added that Bilawal had demonstrated clear leadership during these difficult times, supporting the government to address the crisis.
