- Old and new Samsung TVs now support Google Cast
- Makes casting content to the big screen much easier
- The release may take some time to reach all eligible models.
Google says we won’t see any more Chromecast dongles, but the Google Cast technology they used is still alive, and Samsung has started rolling out support for select models released in 2023, 2024, and 2025.
As Android Authority discovered, the move means these TVs no longer rely on Samsung’s Smart View technology to stream content to the big screen. It offers users much more flexibility, especially those who don’t have Galaxy phones.
We’d previously heard that Google Cast would be supported on all new Samsung TVs by 2026, via the built-in One UI Tizen software (models like the Samsung S99H/S95H, for example) and now we know that older TVs will also receive the update.

It’s not entirely clear exactly which older TVs are eligible, but updates are popping up all over the web: On Reddit, one user reports that his 2024 Samsung S90D now has the functionality. However, the full implementation will likely take some time.

We expect all Samsung TVs released in recent years to have Google Cast functionality. One of its advantages is how lightweight and simple it is, so there should be no problems in terms of hardware capabilities.
As reported by FlatpanelsHD, the Tizen v2115 update is the one to pay attention to. The article says the launch is now “confirmed” for the 2024, 2025 and 2026 models, although it doesn’t mention the 2023 TVs, which Android Authority references.
Google Cast is natively compatible with the Google TV platform (used by manufacturers such as Sony) and with the webOS software developed by LG. All of this means that Chromecast dongles are not required, although of course you can still get Google TV Streamer.
If you’re completely new to Google Cast, it’s a standard way to cast content to a larger TV screen, via built-in controls available in a multitude of Android and iOS apps, as well as YouTube on the desktop and the Google Chrome browser.
