Los Angeles Angels right fielder Jo Adell had a night he will never forget.

Adell showed off his defensive prowess during the team’s 1-0 victory over the Seattle Mariners, robbing three home runs, including one that took him into the stands. The defensive performance was so good that former MLB star outfielder Torii Hunter had high praise for Adell.

Hunter, who works in the Angels’ front office, called it “probably the best defensive game I’ve ever seen.”

“I’ve never seen three stolen home runs in a game, and I’ve never seen a guy on third hit the stands, catch the ball and keep his feet in it like he’s a wide receiver,” he said. “I was jumping up and down. I almost passed out.”

Adell has taken advantage of his defensive skills over the past five seasons with the Angels. He was a Gold Glove finalist in 2024, and although last season was a down year for him in the outfield, Adell really helped propel Los Angeles to victory.

He was instrumental in hitting a solo home run off Cal Raleigh in the first inning. He then did the same against Josh Naylor in the eighth.

Mariners shortstop JP Crawford thought he had tied the game in the top of the ninth. Adell ran toward the ball deep in the right field corner. He jumped, grabbed it, and fell backwards into the stands. The capture was confirmed after a replay review.

MLB’S TOP PROSPECT SHARES A FUN MOMENT WITH THE VETERAN WHO STOLE HIS DAY AFTER HIS FOUR-HIT MLB DEBUT

“After the first one, I was pretty excited,” Adell said. “When I got to the second one, which looked identical to the first, I thought, ‘Wow, my routes are good tonight.’ The third one was just grit. Above ninth, you have to do it. It was crazy.

“You just get there, then it’s decision-making. The ball was hit high enough for me to get there. I looked at it (in my glove), fell and ended up in someone’s lap. I don’t know who it was, but it was a softer landing than I expected. The fans were as excited as I was.”

Adell has 10 home run steals since 2020, tied with the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Kyle Tucker for the most in the majors in that span, according to Inside Edge. Jacob Young of the Washington Nationals and Fernando Tatis Jr. of the San Diego Padres each had four steals in 2025 alone.

“It was like a movie scene,” Hunter added. “It was like the music was playing, then he caught the ball, then he fell and we didn’t see him anymore. The music stopped, he walked over and said, ‘Yes!’ “I started cheering and almost fainted.”

Adell credited Hunter for helping him in the outfield and said his “impact has been huge.”

At the plate, Adell was 1 for 3. The Angels got their only run on a solo home run by Zach Neto in the bottom of the first inning.
