Nintendo has confirmed that Tomodachi Life: Living the dream will not support the new Nintendo Switch 2 resolution upscaling feature.
Last month, the Switch 2 received a big hardware update that introduced Handheld Mode Boost, a highly requested feature by users that improves the original Nintendo Switch software.
Basically, the update runs the Switch game with its preset 1080p graphics settings docked, instead of 720p, giving players the option to play these games at a higher resolution on the Switch 2.

Now, in an FAQ post, Nintendo has addressed whether Tomodachi Life: Living the dream supports Handheld Mode Boost on Nintendo Switch 2, its first new game release since the feature was implemented.
“When playing Tomodachi Life: Living the dream “In Nintendo Switch 2 handheld mode, you can play at a higher resolution (1080p) than using Nintendo Switch handheld mode, regardless of whether Boost handheld mode is on or off,” Nintendo said.
“For that reason, this game does not support Boost handheld mode.”
The company explained that players can enable the mode while playing. Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream – Welcome Version demo, which is now available, “but you won’t be able to use the touch screen.”
“We recommend playing the demo version with Boost handheld mode disabled, as you will still be able to play in higher resolution and use the touch screen,” Nintendo added. “After the next system update, Boost portable mode will no longer apply to the demo version.”
Tomodachi Life: Living the dream launches on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on April 16, 2026.
It doesn’t look like the game will be receiving a separate enhanced version for Switch 2 at this time or any particular improvements, but it is compatible with the latest console.
