After surpassing $70,000 on Monday, bitcoin has retreated to the $68,000 area as President Trump’s Tuesday deadline for Iran to reopen the Strait of Hormuz approaches.
“An entire civilization will die tonight and will never be resurrected,” Trump said in a Truth Social Post on Tuesday morning. “I don’t want that to happen, but it probably will,” he continued. “We will find out tonight, one of the most important moments in the long and complex history of the world.”
Along with the cryptocurrency declines, US stock index futures are poised to open lower, led by the Nasdaq 100’s 0.65% drop. WTI crude oil is up 1.7% to $114.22 per barrel.
The moderate declines across all markets were comments from Vice President JD Vance, who, while reiterating the 8 pm ET deadline, said Iran’s military war objectives have been completed.
