Two people have been arrested in connection with the discovery of a child’s body in an underground water tank at the Baitul Naeem residential apartment complex in northern Karachi.
The body of the missing boy, identified as Sarm, was found in the water tank last night after a search operation by the Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC), Express News reported.
The operation lasted until dawn and included the participation of police officers, the Citizen Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) and other officials.
During the operation, two suspicious individuals were detained for questioning.
According to police, these individuals were in possession of the keys to a locked apartment within the complex.
During the operation the authorities also found a blanket, which will be sent to the forensic laboratory for subsequent analysis.
Samples collected from the floor will also be analyzed. Police are awaiting the boy’s final post-mortem report to clarify the cause of death, which will guide future investigations.
Police sources said that the DNA samples of the arrested suspects and the boy will be sent to Karachi University’s forensic laboratory today for chemical analysis.
Investigations are ongoing and authorities are working to reach a conclusion soon.
A few days ago, the body of a seven-year-old boy who had been missing for 11 days was found in an underground water tank near his house in the northern area of Karachi, police said on Saturday.
The boy, identified as Sarim, was last seen nearly two weeks ago, prompting extensive search efforts by police and family members, Express News reported.
His body was recovered from a water tank with a makeshift cardboard cover, raising questions about the circumstances of his death.
Police have launched an investigation to determine whether Sarim fell into the tank accidentally or whether it was a criminal act.
Neighborhood residents expressed surprise, stating that law enforcement had checked the tank twice during the search but found no sign of the boy. They believe his body may have remained submerged and emerged over time.
Authorities said there were no initial signs of assault or criminal act, but a post-mortem examination will be conducted at Abbasi Shaheed Hospital to determine the cause of death.
Sarim’s mother collapsed in pain when she saw her son’s body, while the community mourned the loss of the little boy.
Last week, it was reported that police could not find any clues about the whereabouts of a boy who went missing in north Karachi on January 7.
Seven-year-old Sarim went missing from the jurisdiction of Bilal Colony police. Sarim, a student at Al Quran Madrassah, went to his seminary on January 7, but never returned.
His father, Parvez, went to the madrasah and asked about his son. The administration said his son had returned home at 3:40 p.m.
Parvez was returning from the madrasah when he suddenly saw Sarim’s gloves lying on the stairs inside the mosque.
