Set 24 years before the events of the original. the hunger games trilogy, Dawn at the harvest is sandwiched between The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes and the early Katniss Everdeen games… which means there’s a ton of history and details to learn.

Joseph Zada, McKenna Grace, Ralph Fiennes, Elle Fanning, Maya Hawke and Glenn Close lead our cast and, frankly, they are already remarkable in their roles.
But excitement aside, I can’t believe no one is talking about how much Dawn at the harvest looks like the hit horror movie from the 2010s Midsommar…and not just aesthetically.

The result? Deranged behavior, vulnerable, unrelenting pain, and zero explanations: everything any Hunger Games tournament has in abundance. If anything, the entire franchise is more aligned with the horror genre than we think.
As fans have picked up on in the YouTube comments, the clear and vibrant color grading will contrast directly with the narrative, potentially making Dawn at the harvest The darkest indie story yet.
Come November, we can expect the new film to essentially be a psychological experiment, both for its characters and its viewers. Combine this unique experience with exceptional attention to detail and we may be looking at one of the best movies of 2026.
