LAS VEGAS – Professional wrestling fans will descend on Las Vegas for days of action ahead of WrestleMania 42 this week, but WWE isn’t the only game in town.
Consejo Mundial de Lucha Libre (CMLL), one of Mexico’s most popular professional wrestling promotions, will hold its first solo exhibition in the U.S. in its 92-year history. CMLL has produced many legendary professional wrestlers and some of its top stars are currently making waves in other major North American promotions such as All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and Ring of Honor (ROH).
The company has partnered with AEW and ROH on many occasions and some professional wrestlers in the latter promotions signed dual contracts that allow them to compete on each other’s shows, including Místico and Thunder Rosa.
CMLL is ready to put together an intriguing card that will showcase the style of professional wrestling that the average fan would have never seen before.

Flip Gordon, who is the historic middleweight world champion of the National Wrestling Alliance, is among those participating in the fights of the historic CMLL show. He said the fact that CMLL has its own show in Las Vegas underlines the incredible momentum the company has achieved.
“I think it’s very significant. Last year we sold over a million tickets at Arena Mexico, something no other company has done in the history of professional wrestling,” Gordon told Pak Gazette Digital. “CMLL is on a roll right now. We’re selling out shows left and right. I think this year we’re going to break the record for sold out shows in our 92-year history.
“This show is very significant because it is the first time we have crossed the border into the United States as a company. We will bring our talent to Las Vegas to put on the best show possible and show what Lucha Libre is. CMLL is the creator of Lucha Libre. Now is our opportunity to show exactly what Lucha Libre is and we are very excited.”
He added that fans will be in luck as many notable names will be on the card.
“Oh, this show is packed,” Gordon said. “So in the main event, we have Místico (and Templario) against Hechicero (and Ángel de Oro) in a champion versus champion match. We have Claudio Castagnoli against Atlantis Jr…. Atlantis, Jr., obviously, second generation superstar. He’s a big star. He’s having a great year right now, he’s in AEW and CMLL.

“Then we have my match, I’ll face Captain Suicida. We’ll face two of the brightest young stars in all of professional wrestling, not just from Mexico, around the world, in Máscara Dorada and Neón. That will be a really fun, fast-paced match. I think a lot of people will be very interested in seeing that match. And then we have a lot of others.
“We’ve got Persephone defending her women’s championship (against Tessa Blanchard). We’ve got another trio match. We’ve got a legends match. We’ve got Blue Panther vs. Último Guerrero, which is going to be phenomenal. Blue Panther, I think is 60 years old and still at the top of his game. So if you’ve never seen Blue Panther, this is a show you have to watch because it’s going to go crazy, especially against Último.”
Gordon, who is from Massachusetts, said he is relishing the opportunity to be on the card because he is an American who can represent his adopted home, Mexico, at such a crucial time.
He added that he hoped to showcase the different styles of professional wrestling that CMLL has to offer.
“I feel very honored to be a part of this card because obviously I’m a foreigner, I live here as a foreigner,” Gordon told Pak Gazette Digital. “My wife and my family, I have two daughters, they are Mexican, they were born here.

“So, to be part of the show as a foreigner but representing Mexico, representing CMLL, is a real honor for me because I get to represent the country that I love, the company that I love and it will be exciting to show a different style, because a lot of the fans have never seen me wrestle in Lucha Libre. They have only seen me in the American style. So I am very excited to show how much I have grown as a professional wrestler, how much I have grown as a person, and it will be really fun to see some familiar faces.”
