Netflix has officially presented itself Charlie vs. the chocolate factoryhis delightful new version of Roald Dahl’s iconic children’s book Charlie and the chocolate factory.
The animated film, whose development is in charge of Sony Pictures Imageworks, also known as the studio of the Netflix giant. Kpop Demon Hunters and the critically acclaimed Spider-Verse movies, will be released exclusively on the world’s best streaming service in 2027.
The upcoming film will also put a deliciously bitter spin on Dahl’s oft-adapted literary work; In fact, it will see the capricious factory owner, Willy Wonka, clash with a teenage version of Charlie, the child protagonist of Dahl’s best-selling novel.

As part of the announcement, Netflix revealed the first artwork for the film. The image, which you have already seen above, shows the silhouette of an individual holding a lollipop looking at the candy-producing plant of the same name, bathed in colors.
Additionally, Netflix confirmed the first two actors who will lend their voices to Willy Wonka and Charlie in its reimagining of the feature film.

Taika Waititi, who some readers may know from his work on Marvel films Thor: Ragnarök and Thor: love and thunderas well as other projects that include Jojo Rabbit, What we do in the shadowsand Our flag means deathwill give voice to the infamous chocolatier. Meanwhile, Stops the heart‘s Kit Connor will take on the role of antagonist Charlie.
Here is the official story synopsis of Charlie vs. the chocolate factory which, unlike its literary inspiration, will also be set in modern-day London: “Willy Wonka has spent the years since the Golden Ticket contest behind bars (not chocolate bars) for the crime of turning a child into a blueberry.
“Having served his time, Wonka returns to his factory determined to add a little sweetness to a bitter world. But one thing stands in his way: teenager Charlie Paley and his friends. Facing eviction, this next generation of rotten kids plan to break into the factory, grab a priceless Wonka bar, and save their homes. But, like many before them who enter the fantasy world of the factory, these kids have a little more in store than they can handle. chew…”

Jared Stern (The LEGO Batman Movie, Green Eggs and Ham) and Elaine Bogan (Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia, Untamed Spirit) are on board as directors of the film. Waititi will executive produce the film with the help of Oscar winner Aron Warner (shrek) and fellow producer Timothy Yoo (Back inside, Green Eggs and Ham).
“Our directors, Jared and Elaine, have a bold vision befitting this new adventure while remaining true to the legacy, and I’m thrilled to play my role in bringing Willy Wonka to life in animated form,” Waititi said in a statement. “He’s very special to me, and the opportunity to voice such an iconic and eccentric (if sometimes a little mischievous) candy genius is hugely exciting.”
Having acquired Roald Dahl Company in 2021, Charlie vs. the chocolate factory will be the next Netflix adaptation based on the successful work of the Dutch author. So far, the entertainment giant has released live-action productions. Matilda the Musical by Roald Dahl and The wonderful story of Henry Sugar short story anthology, plus an animated version of The idiots.
