- An intriguing new Insta360 camera just leaked
- Looks like a traditional Micro Four Thirds mirrorless model
- The camera has been seen once before.
Just days after GoPro unveiled a new action camera with a Micro Four Thirds lens mount, making it compatible with hundreds of external lenses, a new camera from Insta360 has leaked that promises to keep the Micro Four Thirds trend going.
The leak comes from Reddit (via 4/3 Rumors) and we get a decent look at the design of the device. There’s no viewfinder here, but Insta360 seems to have kept everything relatively compact, and we get the white finish that Insta360 likes for its cameras.
In fact, we’ve seen a leak of this camera before, back in January, when Insta360 CEO Jingkang Liu posted a mysterious photo on social media: it showed this camera in action, with the rear screen on display while a photo was framed.

That previous leak pointed to 20MP stills and an f/1.8 fixed or interchangeable lens, but now it looks like there could be a Micro Four Thirds mount on board. The software interface seems similar to the one we already know from the Insta360 Ace Pro action camera.
Whether ‘horrible’ or ‘cool’

While many questions remain surrounding this camera, such as whether the mount will come with autofocus and aperture control for existing MFT lenses, it will likely be welcomed by those who have missed out on new models in this specific category.
Online reactions have been somewhat mixed, with several commenters describing it as “awful”, “cool”, and “infinitely more useful… than anything GoPro just released.” Another more positive reaction was “this is amazing for mft [Micro Four Thirds]”, arguing that it could fill a gap left by OM System and Panasonic in the system for a truly compact mirrorless camera. We’ll reserve judgment until it becomes official.
Given Insta360’s track record, this is likely to be beginner-friendly, while trying to do enough to tempt more pros as well. Vloggers will no doubt be interested, as they will be in the upcoming Insta360 Luna that has already been previewed.
With Micro Four Thirds camera releases being rare in recent years, it’s interesting that both GoPro and Insta360 are investing in the technology again, but we’ll have to wait and see what the demand is for these models.
