Prince Harry’s breakup with Prince William and King Charles has widened the rift between the royal family and the Sussexes.
The Duke of Sussex reportedly feels “completely betrayed by the king,” with insiders citing two major issues that burned all bridges between father and son.
Meghan’s husband’s continuing security battle and the collapse of reunion hopes have deepened the rift between the monarch and the duke.
The father of Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet has lost his taxpayer-funded protection since moving to the US after leaving his royal job in 2020.
The 41-year-old has fought unsuccessfully for his reinstatement. He believes the current arrangements make it unsafe for his family to visit the UK.
On the other hand, her efforts to rebuild her relationship with Charles, 77, have apparently ended in smoke as no further progress has been made.
A source close to Harry claimed OK!: “From Harry’s perspective, Charles’s sense of betrayal is neither vague nor abstract; it is rooted in two very specific frustrations that have been building up over time.
“The first is the continued lack of clarity and progress around his security arrangements, which he considers fundamental to his ability to return safely to the UK with his family.
“The second is the growing sense that any genuine effort to rebuild his relationship with his father is being quietly deprioritized. He had been led to believe there would be movement in both, and instead he feels increasingly estranged.”
The source went on to explain: “On Harry’s part, there is a strong perception that Charles has taken a step back from the idea of another meaningful face-to-face meeting, despite earlier indications that a deeper reconciliation might be possible.”
The pause creates an image of being excluded rather than welcomed. That combination has been particularly difficult for him to process and has left him feeling deeply disappointed, according to the source.
However, some commentators believe the Sussexes’ upcoming summer visit could represent a turning point, opening the door to rebuilding relationships and easing tensions.
